Trump called the attack on National Guard soldiers an "act of terror"
As a result of the attack, two national guardsmen were injured and are in critical condition; the attacker also sustained a serious wound.

According to Trump, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is confident that the attacker arrived in the U.S. from Afghanistan in 2021 (this was previously reported by American media citing sources).
"This was a crime against all our people," he said. "This was a crime against humanity."
Trump also said that U.S. authorities should re-vet everyone who entered the country from Afghanistan under the previous administration of Joe Biden, again criticizing his predecessor.
The American leader also confirmed that he had instructed the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, to send another 500 National Guard personnel to Washington.
"We will make America absolutely safe again," he added, thanking the intelligence officers.
