Trump: New Venezuelan leader will fare worse than Maduro if she doesn't cooperate
US President Donald Trump stated that Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, who temporarily took over the country's leadership, will face an even worse fate than Nicolás Maduro if she refuses to cooperate with Washington. He said this in an interview with The Atlantic.

Trump noted that in case of non-compliance, Rodríguez would have to pay a very high price. The day before, he claimed that she had allegedly expressed readiness to cooperate with the United States in a private conversation, which, according to him, would temporarily "govern" Venezuela for its revival.
However, after a short time, Rodríguez publicly rejected this offer. She stated that Venezuela would defend its natural resources and continue Maduro's policies, emphasizing that the country would never again become a colony.
In response, Trump announced that he does not rule out continued military action in Venezuela and considers regime change and "reconstruction" the best path for the country, which he called completely failed and catastrophic.
In the same interview, Donald Trump once again reiterated that Washington needs Greenland. According to him, the Arctic island is "surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships" and is needed by the USA for defense. However, he did not openly state the Americans' intention to conduct a military operation there.
On January 3, explosions were heard in Caracas, aircraft appeared over the city, and electricity went out in parts of the capital. Venezuela declared aggression from the USA and introduced a state of emergency. Later, Trump stated that American troops had detained Nicolás Maduro and his wife and removed them from the country. In the USA, Maduro was accused of illegal drug and arms trafficking.
After that, the Supreme Court of Venezuela appointed Delcy Rodríguez to act as interim head of state.
