"Met with Vasyl Maliuk. Thanked him for his combat work and suggested focusing specifically on such work," reads Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement.
Earlier on Monday, Ukrainian media reported that Maliuk had agreed to step down as head of the Security Service of Ukraine. Even earlier, reports emerged about Zelenskyy's intention to dismiss Maliuk amidst other personnel reshuffles, including the appointment of military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov as head of the President's Office.
"More Ukrainian 'asymmetric operations' against Russia are ahead, more 'strong results'. Vasyl Vasyliovych (Maliuk) excels at this and will continue to be engaged in this within the SBU system," Zelenskyy stated.
"I instructed Vasyl Maliuk to make the direction of our asymmetric operations the strongest in the world. There are both resources and proper political support for this. Together, we also discussed candidates to choose a new head of the SBU," the President of Ukraine added.
Maliuk's resignation must be approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. He himself wrote: "I am resigning from the position of head of the Security Service. I remain within the SBU system to implement world-class asymmetric special operations that will continue to inflict maximum losses on the enemy."
