Virtual patient created in Belarus to train medics

A virtual patient "MedExam" has been created in Belarus, which helps to educate medical university students and check doctors' training. The project was developed by specialists from Vitebsk State Medical University together with a company - a resident of the High-Tech Park. The development was showcased at the "Healthcare of Belarus" exhibition in Minsk, writes BelTA.

As noted by the developers, future doctors no longer need only practice in hospitals. For quality training, special simulations are needed where diagnosis and treatment can be practiced without risk to real patients. Foreign programs do not always suit Belarusian medics, as their scenarios and treatment schemes often do not comply with the requirements of the Ministry of Health of Belarus.

Therefore, it was decided to create our own virtual patient. The program allows adding new scenarios of varying complexity. Currently, there are 12 such scenarios, and their number is planned to increase.

The system is particularly useful for analyzing errors after completing tasks. It checks whether the future doctor correctly conducted the examination, diagnosis, and treatment.

"MedExam" can also be used as an examination platform to assess the readiness of intern doctors for real medical work. The first such pilot exam is planned to be held in June at Vitebsk State Medical University.
