Kseniya Lutskina, a former political prisoner arrested with him in 2020, wrote about Sakalouski's death on Facebook:
"Dzianis Sakalouski has died. An excellent cameraman, a wonderful person. A former political prisoner who never, ever complained to anyone."
Sakalouski was 47 years old. As Lutskina told "Nasha Niva", the man died in Berlin.
According to Kseniya, Dzianis's body was found by his friends on February 21. The man had not been in contact for some time, and his friends went to check on him – they knew he was feeling unwell:
"He went through COVID on his feet, and this [death] is effectively the result of COVID. There was some complication."
The exact cause of death is not yet known.
"My dad is gone. He was only 47 years old. I don't exactly know yet how and what happened. Right now I just feel pain and I need to understand how to live with this. But I want people to write about my dad, for them to know and remember him. Because he was a wonderful person, he loved people and did a lot for journalism and art," wrote Vasilina Sakalouskaya, Dzianis Sakalouski's daughter, on Instagram.
After the 2020 presidential elections, Dzianis resigned from Belteleradiocompany, where he had worked for over ten years at the time. In 2017, Sakalouski as a cameraman received the "Televyarshynya" award — he was honored for his work on the program "Kalabanau's Effect".

Lutskina speaks of her colleague thus:
"He was the best cameraman at BT, later participated in the events of 2020. He was arrested with me on December 22, 2020, because we were developing our alternative television together."
Dzianis was arrested in the "Press Club" case, which was initiated for alleged tax evasion. He was released after eight months, on August 23, 2021. Before that, almost 110,000 rubles were transferred to the Investigative Committee's account to compensate for losses allegedly caused by the defendants in the case.
Kseniya Lutskina clarifies that Sakalouski was released from pre-trial detention because his measure of restraint was changed. Until the end of Kseniya's trial in September 2022, he remained a defendant in the case, and then was able to leave for Berlin.
"He was very talented, one of the best television cameramen in the country and even the region. Before 2020, he was a full-time employee of Belteleradiocompany, but during his professional life, he collaborated with almost all television companies in our region. He was a professional of the highest level," says Lutskina about Dzianis.
Dzianis's friends are planning to start a fundraiser for his funeral and to help his family.
