On February 6, an attempt was made in Moscow to kill the Deputy Head of the GRU, Vladimir Alekseev, in the elevator hall of his home on Volokolamskoye Highway.
65-year-old Lyubomir Korba (a Russian citizen born in Ukraine) was arrested on suspicion of carrying out the assassination attempt. He was apprehended in Dubai and brought to Moscow.
Also arrested in Moscow, according to the FSB, was his assistant, 66-year-old Viktor Vasin. Another assistant, Zinaida Serebrytskaya, reportedly managed to flee to Ukraine, according to the FSB.
Investigator Christo Grozev reported that Viktor Vasin worked until at least August 2025 for NTC "Atlas," an FSB-linked company developing surveillance tools (transferred to Rostec in 2017).
At NTC "Atlas," Vasin held the position of chief expert.
"A plot twist," Grozev commented.
In an archived CV, Vasin describes himself as "head of a satellite communications station, senior officer - chief of staff of a regiment, master of military affairs."
A week ago, Vasin updated his CV on the HeadHunter website. In the "About Me" section, it states "organization of secrecy regime; preservation of state secrets; construction, creation, and commissioning of military communication complexes."
