According to the Ukrainian president, the American idea of a "free economic zone" as a buffer in Donbas is also on the table, but both sides are skeptical of it:
“Neither side likes the idea of a free economic zone — neither the Russians nor us,” Zelenskyy noted, while not ruling out the possibility of its final consideration.
He stressed that regarding the buffer zone, it should be managed by the state to which the territory belongs, and now the most realistic option for Donbas is the fixation of forces along the front line:
“If this is our territory — and it is our territory — then it should be governed by the country to which it belongs.”
Zelenskyy also noted that any peacekeeping proposal must be approved by Ukraine either through a vote in the Verkhovna Rada or through a referendum, and for a truce, control with US participation is needed — the parties are still coordinating the wording and details.
In addition, Ukraine plans to strengthen its negotiating team with an economic bloc: Minister of Economy Oleksiy Sobolev is to be involved in the delegation to discuss the economic aspect of post-war agreements with the US.
