Lamps like from the 50s, but with LEDs — lighting is being changed on Nezavisimosti Avenue
The reconstruction of lighting on Minsk's central thoroughfare is promised to be completed in the first half of 2026. This refers to the section from Kazlova Street to Surganava Street.

The enterprise "Gardarbud" continues the reconstruction of lighting on Nezavisimosti Avenue. New poles with energy-saving lamps are being installed on the section from Kazlova Street to Surganava Street, Sergei Panev, the director of the enterprise, told a correspondent of the "Minsk-Novosti" agency.
The old poles on Nezavisimosti Avenue have already served their term and, moreover, looked unesthetic due to repeated painting. The reconstruction of outdoor lighting began with the section from Nezavisimosti Square to Kazlova Street.

— Currently, we are installing new outdoor lighting poles on the section of the avenue up to Surganava Street. We plan to complete the reconstruction on this section in the first half of 2026. Subsequently, work will begin on the next segment — up to Filimonava Street. The poles are damaged by aggressive anti-icing agents used for treating road surfaces. The new ones, however, have a higher degree of protection against the use of such substances, — noted Panev.
The poles are designed in the style of the 1950s — as they were originally conceived by architects. Despite the retro style, their execution is modern.
— Poles with a protective coating, applied by hot-dip galvanizing, look aesthetically better and will not require additional maintenance costs. The lighting itself will also change: old mast-mounted lamps with sodium gas-discharge lamps are being replaced with modern LED ones, in beautiful decorative fixtures. In addition, new festive illumination will appear on this section, which will adorn Nezavisimosti Avenue, — clarified Panev.
The switching of lighting from existing poles to new ones is planned for the near future, after which the contractor will proceed with the scheduled dismantling of the old poles.
