Romania has temporarily suspended the issuance of Schengen and national visas — this is stated in a message on the country's embassy website in Minsk. The consular section has been closed since February 1, and it is currently unknown when its work will resume.

Romania joined the Schengen Area just under two years ago, in March 2024. From April of the same year, the consulate began accepting applications for tourist visas. This news delighted Belarusians, but it soon became clear that the diplomatic mission was not going to be generous: appointment slots appear rarely, there are many requirements, visa durations are short, and the probability of refusal is very high.
By 2026, the situation had barely changed. In January, the expert channel "Visa Mole" ranked the Romanian embassy last in terms of loyalty to those wishing to obtain a visa — along with the Bulgarian one, writes Onliner.by.
What Bulgaria is doing in "Schengen" is unclear. They invent their own rules, scare tourists with visa cancellations, and make maximum efforts to deter other applicants, especially during the off-season. The situation with the Romanians is roughly the same, only it's also impossible to get an appointment with them.
