A 79-year-old guest from London visited one of Minsk's exchange offices to exchange currency he brought with him.

The man planned to exchange 5 banknotes, each with a denomination of 20 British pounds sterling. However, during the authenticity check of one banknote, the cashier at the currency exchange office had doubts.
The police confiscated the banknote and sent it to the State Forensic Examination Committee.

The reverse side of the banknote features a portrait of the landscape painter William Turner.
According to the expert's conclusion, the banknote was not produced by the appropriate enterprise, the State Forensic Examination Committee reports.
This is confirmed by a different color rendering of the images, made by electrophotographic printing, as well as an imitation of a stripe hologram with text and images applied by flexographic printing.
This is not the first case of counterfeit pounds sterling being detected. Previously, a similar incident involving 20 pounds was recorded in Gomel.
