The Israeli military announced it has begun striking Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.
These actions are "a response to Hezbollah's shelling of Israel," the statement said.
According to Reuters, witnesses reported strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The Israel Defense Forces called on residents of more than 50 villages in Lebanon to evacuate after the Iranian-backed Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel.
"For your safety, you must immediately evacuate your homes and move at least 1000 meters from the villages to open areas," the warning stated.
"Anyone near Hezbollah members, its facilities, or military assets, endangers their life," Israel's statement said.
