On the website of the Belarusian Republican Bar Association, "Flagstock" noticed a question from a Gomel resident about the legality of police actions when detaining a woman for "Hukannie viasny" (Calling of Spring).
In the "Online Legal Consultation" section, lawyers were asked the following question:
"My daughter participated in the 'Hukannie viasny' rite in Gomel, organized by the 'Spadchyna' restaurant. A few days later, district police officers came to our home and took my daughter to the department for preventive work. Because of this, her work at the college was disrupted. After holding my daughter at the district police department for about eight hours, they explained to her that she had participated in an unauthorized event. How legitimate are the actions of the law enforcement officers?"
Lawyer Kristina Yakuta-Marchuk answered briefly, without commenting on the question of the legality of police actions:
"If there were grounds, they could detain. And they could also explain. One needs to see how everything was documented."
The author of the question added a comment:
"My daughter was at the police station from eight in the morning until 4:00 PM. Waiting for the interrogation for 6 hours and the so-called preventive talk for 2 hours. Two officers spoke with her and issued a certificate for the reason of absence from work. No other documents were given. She was told that she should have found out herself if the restaurant had permission to hold the event. How correct are the actions of the police officers?"
This question remained unanswered.
