Moscow stated that nobody is asking Kyiv for consent to a truce. Putin's decision is enough
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the truce proposed by Russia until May 9 is a unilateral decision by Vladimir Putin and does not require any reaction or consent from Ukraine. He emphasized that this decision has already been, reportedly, adopted by Russia and will be implemented.

At the same time, Peskov added that Moscow expects from Kyiv "some reaction in terms of adequate intentions," although he did not clarify what exactly was meant by this.
It was reported earlier that during a phone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, the idea of a short-term truce in Ukraine was discussed. According to these reports, Putin proposed a cessation of hostilities for the period of the May 9 celebration, and this idea reportedly received support from Trump. What's more, Trump even later presented this idea as his own.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he instructed to study this proposal. He noted that it is still unclear what exactly is being discussed — whether it's about several hours of security during the parade in Moscow or a broader ceasefire.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that instead of short truces, Ukraine advocates for a more long-term, or even better, a complete cessation of the war.
