Amid rising precious metal prices, Belarusians increasingly pawn silver
Belarusians have noticeably started pawning silver items more often. Among such items, quite unusual objects are found, which later become museum exhibits, writes BelTA.

Svetlana Krutko, head of the expert-analytical assessment department for valuables at the State Depository, notes in an interview with "Economics of Belarus" magazine that the current boom is clearly related to the fact that silver prices, like gold prices, have reached a historical maximum.
Silver sugar bowls, sauce boats, inkwells, and other items are now massively brought to pawnshops. Among them are products with hallmarks from the USA, Portugal, and other countries.
Recently, specialists received an American silver vase from the 1950s weighing 1357 grams. According to Svetlana Krutko, it was brought by a collector who bought the vase very cheaply many years ago and now decided to profit from it.
In addition to various items, Belarusians also pawn silver coins. Among them are kopecks of the Russian Empire from the 19th century of various minting years. However, they are not considered a great rarity, as they were produced in large quantities at the time.
There are significantly fewer gold coins among such receipts. These are primarily imperial coins with denominations of five and ten rubles of 900-purity. They weigh 4.3 and 8.6 grams, respectively. According to the expert, such coins were considered exemplary due to the minimal amount of impurities. In the USSR, gold from them was used, in particular, for making dental crowns.
At the same time, specialists often find fakes among such coins. It can be difficult to identify them, as counterfeits may perfectly match the originals in weight and purity. Their method of manufacture gives them away: fake coins are cast, while genuine imperial coins were minted.
By November 1st of this year, 159 already selected valuable items made of gold, silver, and platinum are to be transferred to depositories or to museums in the capital and regions of Belarus.
