A major fire broke out in Bavaria in the historic Kehlsteinhaus building, known as the "Eagle's Nest," which was used during the Nazi years for representative meetings of Adolf Hitler. The fire erupted yesterday evening, writes Bild.

Even after 12 hours, firefighters still couldn't fully extinguish the flames. According to a police spokesperson, the building sustained such severe damage that it likely cannot be restored.

Police are investigating possible arson. On their way to the scene, law enforcement officers noticed a motorcyclist driving towards the fire engines.

The man was stopped and detained, and is now being interrogated. However, investigators have not yet determined if he is connected to the fire. The identity of the suspect and possible motives are not being disclosed. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties, and no one was inside the building at the time of the blaze.

The Kehlsteinhaus is located at an altitude of 1834 meters above the town of Berchtesgaden.

The building was constructed in 1937–1938 as a representative residence for Hitler, although he himself rarely visited it.

During World War II, the structure remained largely undamaged, and since 1952, it has been used as a mountain restaurant and tourist attraction. Currently, the exhibition located there tells about the building's Nazi past.
