Pashinyan announced his intention to apply for EU membership in 2027 or 2028
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that his country could submit an official application for European Union membership in 2027 or 2028. According to him, such a timeline is realistic. He said this at the Euronews summit dedicated to EU enlargement.

Pashinyan noted that the government has already begun a process that should lead to a final decision on submitting the application. In August, he stated in parliament that Armenia intends to make such a request in the near future. The official application has not yet been submitted. Yerevan is also negotiating with the European Commission on visa regime liberalization and expects to complete this process by 2029.
Pashinyan called European integration a strategic choice linked to the defense of democracy in the country. He reminded that after the 2018 revolution, new political forces came to power, and the European Union became one of Armenia's main partners in carrying out democratic reforms.
According to the Armenian Prime Minister, one of the government's main tasks is to give Armenian society the opportunity to choose. He noted that previously in the country and neighboring states, it was often believed that Armenia had no alternative to traditional cooperation with Russia.
Against the backdrop of Yerevan's rapprochement with Brussels, Moscow demands that Armenia decide between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. Russia also threatened possible retaliatory measures, including the cessation of energy supplies. In response, Pashinyan stated that his government seeks to diversify the country's political and economic ties. He emphasized that a lack of balance in international relations always creates risks.
Commenting on the threats from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who compared Armenia's possible path to the situation in Ukraine, Pashinyan rejected such a comparison. He stated that the country's main goal is to strengthen independence and develop international integration.
The Prime Minister also noted that the final choice between joining the EU and maintaining membership in the Eurasian Economic Union must be made by the people of Armenia.
Pashinyan added that Georgia's aspiration to join the European Union has become an example for Armenian society. According to him, Georgia's success in this direction is significant for how Armenian citizens assess their own European prospects.
