7 tons of Belarusian radioactive chanterelles denied entry to Lithuania
Lithuanian border guards denied entry to a truck carrying over seven tons of fresh chanterelles from Belarus. During inspection at the Medininkai border crossing, radioactive contamination of the cargo was detected, reports the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.

The incident occurred late in the evening on Saturday, April 31. The truck was driven by a 36-year-old Belarusian citizen who had a Lithuanian temporary residence permit. He was driving a tractor unit registered in Lithuania with a semi-trailer registered in Estonia.
As the vehicle approached the checkpoint, a stationary radiation control system was activated.
An additional check with a handheld identifier showed the presence of Caesium-137. Its share in the detected radionuclide composition was 71%. The dose rate on the cargo surface reached 0.06 µSv/h, while the natural radiation background was 0.02 µSv/h.
The truck contained fresh chanterelles — a total of 7128 kilograms. The mushrooms were packed in 2376 wooden boxes, each weighing four kilograms.
Lithuanian border guards contacted the Radiation Safety Centre. After receiving an oral decision, the vehicle with its cargo was denied entry to Lithuania. As a result, the vehicle, along with its entire cargo, returned to Belarus.
