Great Britain's Bodhana Sivanandan has become the youngest female chess player in history to achieve the title of Woman Grandmaster. She met the necessary norm during the World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Playing for the England national team on the first board, Sivanandan scored 8 points in 11 games.
Until now, the age record belonged to Kateryna Lagno, who previously represented Ukraine and has played for Russia since 2014. She received the Woman Grandmaster title in 2002 at the age of 12 years and 4 months.
Among men, the youngest chess player in history to receive the ordinary Grandmaster title is American Abhimanyu Mishra. He earned this title in 2021, also at the age of 12 years and 4 months.
Woman Grandmaster — is a female title awarded by the International Chess Federation FIDE. The requirements for obtaining it are lower than for the International Grandmaster title.
Sivanandan started playing chess during the COVID-19 pandemic. She found a chessboard in a bag of unwanted items that a family acquaintance had left at their home in Harrow, North London. Her father taught the girl the basic rules of the game, but she soon began to beat him. Sivanandan further honed her skills with the help of instructional videos on YouTube.
Besides chess, she plays the violin and piano.
Previously, Sivanandan became the youngest British Women's Chess Champion. She broke the record held by Elaine Pritchard, who won the national championship in 1939 at the age of 13.
