Pro-Russian activist from Latvia, who fought against the white-red-white flag, was forced to sign a military contract in Russia and sent to war
59-year-old Sergey Mulivanov, a native of Latvia, who moved to Russia due to disagreement with Riga's official policy and claimed oppression of the Russian-speaking population, was tricked into signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and sent to war against Ukraine. This was reported by his acquaintances, writes The Moscow Times.

Mulivanov moved to Russia in 2024 and settled in the Moscow region, where he obtained Russian citizenship. He continued to hold pro-Kremlin views and engaged in relevant public activities. At the same time, he worked as a courier.
In April 2026, the Zyuzino District Court of Moscow arrested him on suspicion of "dropper" activity — participation in schemes using bank accounts to transfer illegally obtained money. According to relatives, Mulivanov was allegedly used by fraudsters who tricked him into transporting stolen money.
In the "Presnya" pre-trial detention center, the man was forced to sign a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. Attempts by his lawyer to revoke the signature were unsuccessful. On October 30, Mulivanov was sent to the troops. On his way to Rostov-on-Don, he managed to call his relatives, after which contact with him was lost. According to relatives, the man is unfit for military service due to diabetes and polyneuropathy.
Mulivanov gained fame in Latvia in the late 2010s – early 2020s thanks to his pro-Russian activities under the slogans of defending the rights of the Russian-speaking population. He unsuccessfully ran in elections at various levels several times for different political forces. He also tried to sue former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev for awarding the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called to the former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev.
In addition, he defiantly tore down the Belarusian national white-red-white flag displayed in Riga.
After the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Mulivanov openly supported Moscow and began collaborating with pro-Kremlin publications. He published an article for the "Tsargrad" publication, in which he complained about rising prices in Latvia and the deteriorating situation of the population. In an interview with Sputnik, he compared the Latvian government to fascists.
In February 2025, Mulivanov participated in Moscow in a scientific and practical conference "Ethnocide of Russian compatriots in the Baltic countries." There he called for the liquidation of the statehood of the Baltic peoples and stated that he personally participated in the recruitment of Russian-speaking residents of Latvia to participate in the so-called "special military operation." Now he has gone to it himself.
