In Mainz, Germany, 600 Euros Exchanged for Old Belarusian Rubles
In the German city of Mainz, a man fell victim to fraud: he handed over 600 euros in exchange for Belarusian banknotes that are no longer in circulation. Local police reported the incident, writes the website "Belarus and World".

The incident occurred on Monday, November 2, around 5:30 PM. An unknown person approached a man who was leaving a supermarket on Adam-Karillon-Strasse in the Neustadt district. He explained that he urgently needed money to return to Belarus, but he had no euros — only Belarusian rubles.
The stranger showed four banknotes with a denomination of 500 rubles each and assured that together they were worth 600 euros. The man quickly checked the information online, after which he agreed to the exchange.
They drove together to the nearest bank, where the man withdrew 500 euros and handed them to the stranger. In addition, the stranger gave him an item that looked like a gold chain.
However, it later turned out that the 2000 Belarusian rubles received in the exchange were practically worthless, as they went out of circulation after the monetary reform in Belarus in 2016. Furthermore, doubts arose as to whether the chain was actually made of gold.
According to police information, the scammer arrived at the supermarket in a BMW X6. A woman and a child were also in the car.
