Nine police officers arrested in Serbia for violence against protesters
Among those arrested is the commander of the special anti-terrorist unit, Igor Zmirich. The arrests occurred shortly after the student movement's victory in the parliamentary elections, writes Euronews.

On November 4 in Belgrade, eight active police officers and one former officer were arrested. They are suspected of cruel treatment and torture of participants in anti-government protests in August 2025.
According to the Serbian Interior Ministry, the suspects used force during duty to inflict severe pain and suffering on several victims. The goal was "to obtain information, intimidate them, and unlawfully punish them."
According to the investigation, this took place in a garage inside a government building in Belgrade.
The Interior Ministry only published the initials and birth years of the suspects. RTS reported that among them is Igor Zmirich, commander of the special anti-terrorist unit. A previously arrested student activist accused him of kicking her while she was lying on the floor.
At the end of October, the "Student List" movement won the parliamentary elections, bypassing the political force of long-time Serbian leader Aleksandar Vučić.
The movement grew out of protests that began after a disaster at a recently renovated railway station in November 2024. The deaths sparked mass demonstrations against corruption and demands for accountability from the authorities. Protesters repeatedly reported police brutality.
