French celebrities and feminists have expressed outrage over the words of First Lady Brigitte Macron about protesting activists at a comedian's show, the BBC reports.

Activists wearing masks with Ari Abittan's face interrupted his stand-up show on Saturday, shouting "Abittan is a rapist." Abittan was accused of rape in 2021, but investigators later closed the case, citing lack of evidence.

Mrs. Macron met Abittan before his performance on Sunday. In the video, he says he feels "scared," to which Macron replies: "If there are any stupid b*tches, we'll throw them out," after which she smiles and laughs.

Macron's representatives told AFP that her words were aimed at criticizing "radical methods" of protest.

"Brigitte Macron does not approve of these radical methods," a member of her team added.

The First Lady's words — "sales connes" (translated as "stupid b*tches") — were picked up by celebrities and feminists online, who condemned her actions and violence against women.

The demonstration was organized by Nous Toutes – a French organization that fights against violence against women.

Most of those using the hashtag #salesconnes on social media do so to express support for the feminist community.

Actress Judith Godrèche — who accused a director of rape, which he denies — also joined the campaign.

"I'm also a stupid b*tch," she wrote on social media, while Belgian comedian Florence Mendez stated she was proud to be one of them.

Actress and singer Nadège Beausson-Diagne also embraced the term, writing on Instagram: "I'm also a stupid b*tch in summer, winter, spring, and autumn."

She called the woman who accused Abittan of rape "brave" and expressed support for the Nous Toutes group, adding that the organization would become "stronger to fight together against sexual violence."

Actress Rachida Brakni also thanked the "b*tches" and tagged Nous Toutes in her post.

Meanwhile, stand-up comedian Marine Leonardi wrote on Instagram: "Feminists are never stupid b*tches."

Brigitte Macron attended Abittan's show with her daughter.
