Markov: "'To Reconcile' is a Treacherous Tactic of the West, They Want to Legalize New Media Under the Guise of Constructive Ones"

A few days ago, in his program "Markov. Nothing Personal," during a conversation with Dmitry Zhuk, editor-in-chief of the publishing house "Belarus Today," Minister of Information Marat Markov stated that by the 2030 elections, the West plans to destabilize the situation in Belarus again and is gathering forces and resources for this.

Today, the official Telegram channel of the Ministry of Information published an extended explanation of the minister's position in the form of an answer to a program viewer's question: "Do you really think they still have an electoral base for this? Or is the calculation only on the 'tactic of reconciliation' to deceive and split the elites?"

Markov began his answer with a remark about the excellent economic situation: Belarus's economy is growing, and the average wage and pension are at their maximum for the entire period of independence.

Regarding the events of 2020, the minister argues that the regime was saved by the fact that "it was not possible to emotionally incite labor collectives to protests and split the elites and security forces."

"'Some later left, some were imprisoned, some got away for now…' — says Markov about the opponents of the dictatorship. — 'But the control system is established. And the proverb about one who has been beaten in relation to strengthening power is relevant and obvious,' threatens the official."

As for the future, Markov is confident that "they won't leave us alone" and the West, in relation to Belarus, will try to "legalize new public initiatives and media 'under the guise of constructive ones'."

Markov warns: relying on the loyalty of the population is not enough, because the fate of states is often decided not by the popular masses, but by cohesive and motivated groups.

He emphasized the "unfair, but undeniable fact": power is always and everywhere changed by an active minority with the passive observation of the majority. To reinforce the warning about the danger of even small active groups, the official turned to history, recalling the number of Bolsheviks in 1917 and participants of the Maidan in 2014. It is from these examples, in the minister's opinion, that "correct conclusions" should be drawn.

Markov also did not overlook new threats related to the use of "info-tools."

"'In 2020, completely new information technologies were tested on us, disproportionate in investment to the size of the country and its population,' — claims the propagandist, noting that at that time there was no artificial intelligence yet.

"'Who prevents our opponents from conducting a new multi-billion dollar information experiment?' — warns Marat Markov, addressing Lukashenka's supporters."

Mass political repressions in Belarus have been ongoing since 2020. Then Alexander Lukashenka lost to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya but did not cede power to her, instead forcing her to leave the country. This provoked mass popular protests involving millions of people. In response, the authorities launched mass repressions. Hundreds of thousands of Belarusians were forced to leave the country, and about 150,000 became victims of criminal and administrative persecution.
