"The first customer visited the Kamunikat.shop bookstore at the Belarusian Solidarity Center yesterday! Many thanks to you, dear Aliaksandr Fiaduta!!! Everyone is invited today at 17:00 for the Opening of the Kamunikat shop space at the Belarusian Solidarity Center in Warsaw," Yaroslav Ivaniuk wrote on his Facebook page.
Aliaksandr Fiaduta holds a volume dedicated to Kastus Yezafitau (1898—1946).
Yezafitau was one of the signatories of the proclamation of independence of the BNR on March 25, 1918, commandant of Minsk, a leader of Belarusian life in Latvia in the 1920s-1930s, founder of Belarusian schools in Latgale, and headed the Main Directorate of Military Schools under the Belarusian Central Rada. As he wrote in his letters, he worked 18-19 hours a day, writing letters to colleagues either on trains or while shaking on carts.
After an operation to remove a hernia in April 1945 near Berlin, Yezafitau was abducted by a Soviet agent and handed over to the NKVD. First, he was taken to Moscow, and then, at Tsanava's request, transferred to the Minsk "Amerikanka" (American prison).
The volume, published by "Kamunikat," contains a detailed biography of Yezafitau, his correspondence, articles, a diary from 1944-1945, and his own detailed testimonies given in the "Amerikanka."
The "Kamunikat" Foundation was established 26 years ago. Initially, it was an online library. Yaroslav Ivaniuk scanned Belarusian books, newspapers, and magazines and uploaded them to the internet.
After the events of 2020, Yaroslav began publishing Belarusian books; over five years, several dozen books were published, and he also traveled around the centers of the new Belarusian emigration with presentations. So last week, he and poet Nastassia Kudasava embarked on a literary tour to Bialystok, Vilnius, Riga, and Tallinn.
