Moscow called on foreign governments to evacuate diplomats from Kyiv

The Russian side sent a note to all diplomatic missions accredited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging them to ensure the evacuation of embassy staff in Kyiv due to a warning from the Russian Ministry of Defense about a retaliatory strike on the center of the Ukrainian capital if Ukrainian authorities attempt to disrupt the celebration of the 81st anniversary of Victory. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, writes RBC.

"The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly urges the authorities of your country, the leadership of your organization, to treat this statement with maximum responsibility and to ensure the prior evacuation from the city of Kyiv of personnel from diplomatic and other missions, as well as citizens, due to the inevitability of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launching a retaliatory strike on Kyiv, including decision-making centers, should the Kyiv regime implement its criminal terrorist plans during the days of celebrating the Great Victory," Zakharova quoted from the note.

Russian diplomatic missions abroad are also informing accreditation countries and international organizations about this, the ministry added.

"We are well aware of the collective Western minority's attitude towards May 9: they systematically destroy Soviet memorial heritage, exhume the remains of Soviet soldiers, rewrite and distort history. It is they, by arming Ukraine, who are complicit in the criminal plans of the Kyiv regime. But in this case, their instinct for self-preservation should not fail them. We are not acting from a position of aggression; we are acting from a position of inevitable response to aggression," Zakharova said.

She noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense's statement about a possible retaliatory strike should be taken "very, very seriously."

On May 4, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a truce for May 8-9. The message stated that the Russian side expects Ukraine to follow this example. The ministry declared that in case of attempts by the Ukrainian side to disrupt the celebration of the 81st anniversary of Victory, the Russian Armed Forces would launch a retaliatory massive missile strike on the center of Kyiv.

"We warn the civilian population of Kyiv and employees of foreign diplomatic missions about the need to leave the city in a timely manner," the Ministry of Defense's statement said.
