Two Belarusians and a Pole on trial in Białystok for cigarette smuggling with drones
The District Court in Białystok has begun hearing a case regarding cigarette smuggling with the use of drones. Two citizens of Belarus and one citizen of Poland are in the dock, Most reports .
The three accused are old friends living in Białystok. The Belarusians reside in the same building, and the Pole often visited them.
The accused were detained in April in the morning, while it was still dark. Screenshots with coordinates of points in the forest near Białystok were found on one of their phones. Border guard patrols went to these locations and found cigarettes wrapped in film.
The three men are accused of smuggling 4.6 thousand packs of cigarettes with an estimated value of 94 thousand zloty (22 thousand euros).
None of the men admit their guilt. The accused claim they were looking for a lost phone and wallet when they were detained by border guards. All of them are currently in custody.
Recently, Poland often treats cigarette smuggling as a violation of sanctions imposed against Belarus for its complicity in the war against Ukraine. This offense carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term of at least three years.
