Among the participants are — Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, Freedom House President Jamie Fly, Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski, Ukrainian journalist and former prisoner of the Donetsk «Izolyatsia» prison Stanislav Aseyev, as well as representatives of democratic movements from Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua.
At the heart of the program are two topics: support for political prisoners and human rights defenders, and countering cooperation among authoritarian regimes. How Europe and the U.S. can together respond to the exchange of surveillance technologies and repressive methods, sanctions evasion, disinformation, and the persecution of people abroad.
In her speech, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on democratic countries to maintain unity and respond decisively to the actions of dictators.
«Dictators are trying to divide us. They are testing our countries' unity. They are testing our solidarity. They are looking for our weak spots to use them against us. And the best answer from democracies is to show teeth. To show their strength. To support each other. For us, Belarusians, as for many other peoples, Europe is our goal. Europe is our family,» — said the politician.
