In Ivatsevichy district, foresters found a rare mushroom — the lion's mane, or coral tooth fungus (*Hericium coralloides*), which is listed in the Red Book of Belarus. It got its name due to its unusual shape, resembling sea coral, writes Times.by.

The mushroom was found by specialists from the forest protection sector of Damanava forestry during field work in the territory of Dabramysli forest district. The exact coordinates of the find are not disclosed, as it is a protected species. A camera trap has already been installed at the site to observe the mushroom.
Foresters handed over information about the find to the Ivatsevichy District Inspectorate for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. The chief specialist of the inspectorate, Volha Beliakova, confirmed the uniqueness of the find and noted that this species had not been recorded in Ivatsevichy district before.

The coral tooth fungus usually grows on dead hardwood trees, most often oak, aspen, elm, and birch. In nature, it is found individually or in small groups.
Young specimens of this mushroom are edible, however, they cannot be collected due to the rarity of the species and its protected status. Further observation of the find location and measures for its protection will be carried out in accordance with environmental legislation.
