On October 19, US President Donald Trump spoke with journalists near the White House and made several statements regarding the war in Ukraine.
Donald Trump stated that the US is negotiating with Vladimir Putin regarding Ukraine, so he does not want to disrupt them in the middle of the process.
He was asked if a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping was planned.
«No, but I would hold such a meeting. Not so much for Ukraine. Because Russia, frankly speaking, behaved perfectly normally on the issue of Ukraine. They're not doing much. The same with China. We would have a meeting to discuss nuclear weapons and denuclearization,» he said.
Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stating that he is not very helpful in ending the war and, according to the American leader, does not want to stop it. Trump added that it is time for someone else to represent Ukraine in negotiations.
According to him, during the war, the territorial situation has changed very little, but Ukraine has suffered enormous human losses.
«Almost nothing has changed territorially, but a million people, a huge number of people have died. They are losing their male population,» Trump stated.
The American president also said that Zelenskyy «doesn't know what he's talking about.» This was his reaction to the Ukrainian leader's words that Trump «is on the wrong side of history.»
Additionally, Trump was asked who ordered the restriction of Starlink's operation in Ukraine.
«I don't know who it was, but I would like to find out,» the US President replied.
According to the American president, Russia, in Washington's assessment, is not actively assisting Iran.
«Putin left Iran alone. That's good because we're hitting Iran very hard,» Trump said.
