Two Confiscated Apartments of Aliaksandr Azarau Sold at Auctions

There weren't many eager to acquire someone else's property — only three bidders for two apartments.

As Aliaksandr Azarau told "Nasha Niva", the authorities sold his seized apartments in Minsk at auction.

One of them is a one-room apartment with an area of 30.6 m² on Karastayanava street, where Azarau himself is registered. This auction essentially did not take place. Only one interested party appeared to acquire the housing seized from its owners. As a result, they paid 151 thousand rubles ($54 thousand at the exchange rate on that day) and took the keys.

In the second apartment, a two-room apartment with an area of 52.7 m² on Skrypnikava street, Azarau's wife and his two minor daughters were registered.

Two individuals bid on this property. As a result, they drove up the price from 220 thousand rubles to 231 thousand rubles. This is a final $82,500.

Azarau says that both apartments were acquired during the marriage, meaning half belonged to his wife.

Also in 2020, Azarau acquired a plot of land in Belarus at auction, whose fate he now knows nothing about. This is 15 ares near Rakaŭ, where he planned to build a house; utilities were already connected — water, sewage, electricity. On August 7, 2020, work for laying the foundation was completed on that plot.

In September of the same year, Azarau planned to pour the foundation, and in 2021, the family dreamed of moving into the house. The last time he heard about the plot was precisely in 2021 — at that time, he received a letter from the village council demanding that he build a house by the end of the year, or the land would be confiscated.

Azarau accepted the news of the apartment sale without excessive emotion: "I regret nothing. Because I live in a free, democratic country where my children and I have great opportunities for life and development."
