Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado returned to her homeland.
«I am here. With you,» she wrote on X on October 25.
Her return was also confirmed by her ally Edmundo González Urrutia. He called it a very important day for Venezuelans. «Our sovereign voice returns with her to lead this process.»

Machado made her first public appearance at a Catholic church in Santa Rosa, Lara state, in the northwest of the country. There, during mass, she was met by supporters of her Vente Venezuela party.

Machado had not been in Venezuela for more than 10 months. She left for Oslo in December 2025 to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Prior to that, she had been in hiding in the country for 11 months after a brief detention at a protest in January 2025. After Maduro's overthrow, the country is governed by interim president Delcy Rodríguez, a long-time ally of Maduro, who was supported by the Trump administration. Machado and her allies demand that a date for presidential elections be set. According to Machado herself, the authorities foiled at least seven of her attempts to return.
