The YouTube service is testing a new interface in which the "Dislike" button disappears from the panel below the video.

For some users, this button has moved to an additional menu that opens by clicking on three dots, while others report that the ability to give a negative rating has disappeared altogether. Meanwhile, the "Like" button remains in its usual place.
As reported by 9to5Google, the first reports of changes appeared on social networks X and Reddit. Users are publishing screenshots of the updated interface, on which the "Dislike" button is among secondary functions. According to reports, the experiment currently covers a limited number of users, primarily those who watch videos via the web version of YouTube.
If the button becomes less prominent, viewers will have to perform additional actions to give a "dislike". This could lead to a reduction in the number of negative ratings.
Google has not yet officially commented on the experiment. It is also unknown whether the company plans to roll out the new interface to all users.
This is not the first change to YouTube's video rating system. In November 2021, the platform hid the publicly visible "dislike" counter. The company explained this by the need to protect creators, especially small channels, from organized mass negative rating campaigns. However, the button itself remained accessible, and video creators could still see the exact number of "dislikes" in YouTube Studio.
In June 2026, YouTube announced the removal of the "Dislike" button in Shorts. Instead, viewers were offered the tools "Not interested" and "Don't recommend channel", which allow for more precise customization of recommendations.
The company explained that a negative rating doesn't always indicate low video quality: sometimes a video simply doesn't match a particular viewer's interests.
Now, similar changes may affect regular videos as well. However, it's too early to talk about a complete cancellation of "dislikes": YouTube is only testing a new interface and has not yet announced a final decision.
