Artificial intelligence questioned the authorship of the world's most expensive painting
AI considered Leonardo da Vinci's painting, worth $450 million, a fake.

The painting «Salvator Mundi», believed to be authored by Leonardo da Vinci, might have been painted by another person — this conclusion was reached by the Brazilian artificial intelligence system Luminari. According to the analysis, there is an 81% probability that the work was not painted by Leonardo himself, but by his pupil Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio, writes BILD.
In 2017, the painting was sold at Christie's auction for a record $450.3 million. The buyer is believed to be Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Since then, the canvas has not been exhibited publicly.
The results of the analysis were published by the Martin Cid portal. Experts urge not to consider this assessment as proof.
Artificial intelligence entrepreneur Wolfgang Reuter told the publication that an 81% probability is only an indirect indicator. Art historian and Leonardo specialist Frank Zöllner noted that serious analysis using artificial intelligence can be useful, but it is not capable of definitively resolving all disputes about authorship.
The history of the painting is full of mysteries. In 2005, the heavily damaged canvas was purchased at a regional auction in New York for just $1175. After restoration, it was attributed to Leonardo da Vinci.
