US Sentences Belarusian Woman for Supplying Aviation Equipment to Russia
Yana Liavonava was sentenced to 12 months and one day.

A US federal court sentenced Belarusian Yana Liavonava to 12 months and one day in prison for the illegal export of numerous avionics components and other aviation equipment from the United States to Russia. This was reported by the US Department of Justice, writes "Zerkalo".
"While Russia waged war against Ukraine, Yana Liavonava engaged in smuggling US-made aviation components for a company that was later added to the US government's sanctions list. To conceal the illegal export and circumvent US sanctions, she used shell companies, forged documents, foreign intermediaries, and accounts in foreign banks," stated Prosecutor Janine Ferris Pira.
In addition to imprisonment, the judge ordered Liavonava to be deported to Belarus after serving her sentence.
According to court documents and admissions made during the trial, after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Liavonava and her accomplices from the US and Armenia purchased aviation components from American distributors and illegally exported them from the United States to Russia via Armenia. As a result, dozens of aviation components were supplied to Russia, for which several million dollars were paid in return.
Liavonava was arrested in September 2024 after arriving in France as a tourist. She spent several weeks in a French prison and then about a year under house arrest before being extradited to the US.
In court, the Belarusian woman pleaded guilty.
