Art manager Aleh Larychau is being tried for belonging to "Veyshnoria"
His health problems worsened in detention.
The trial of Aleh Larychau began recently. He is accused under two articles of the Criminal Code — 361-1 ("Creation of an extremist formation or participation in it") and 361-2 ("Financing an extremist formation"), Alіna Herashchanka reported to Radio Svaboda.
The prosecutor's office seeks to prove that Aleh Larychau is involved with the cultural community "Da Zorau" (To the Stars), which tried to officially organize cultural events like gatherings and concerts in Belarus and had foreign funding.
Larychau is also accused of involvement in the old meme initiative "Veyshnoria". The non-existent state of Veyshnoria first appeared in the scenario of the joint military exercises of Russia and Belarus "West-2017". The meme became popular among internet users, and Veyshnoria became a meme. Online, people invented a coat of arms and flag for the non-existent state, and a humorous website appeared. This entire movement was humorous and effectively ceased 6-7 years ago.
In September, the information that Larychau is accused of involvement with the "Da Zorau" community was confirmed to Radio Svaboda by the released musician Ales Chumakou. According to Chumakou, initially, he and Larychau were involved in the same case, but later the cases were separated. Aleh was brought to Chumakou's trial as a witness in August 2026. According to the musician, Larychau was already feeling unwell then.
Semyon Malashenkau is being tried along with Aleh Larychau; he was also detained last November and is accused of involvement in the "Da Zorau" initiative. Aleh is held in Pre-Trial Detention Center No. 1 in Kaliadzichy, near Minsk.
During the process, Aleh Larychau tried to call Ales Chumakou as a witness, but he was already abroad.
On December 17, 2025, the "Da Zorau" initiative was recognized as an "extremist formation". The non-existent Veyshnoria and the social networks of the humorous project were recognized as an "extremist formation" this March.
