The reason for the scandal was videos on social media, whose authors claimed that mobilized men were being held in the basement of the house, where they were beaten and tortured, and money was demanded for the opportunity to meet with them and receive medical care.

About a hundred people gathered near the building. Some identified themselves as relatives of the men who were in the house.

During the action, people began to break down the gate, and clashes broke out among them. Unknown individuals sprayed gas, used fire extinguishers, and poured an unknown liquid on those present.

Police stated that there was no illegal detention of people, and the building was used for temporary accommodation of servicemen before being sent for training. According to the police, the men were in satisfactory condition, and reports of torture were untrue.

Deputy head of the regional police Maksym Ocheretianyi confirmed that the house is a military facility.

National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko reported that four servicemen who required medical attention were taken to the hospital. According to him, they were in the status of those who had unauthorizedly left military units. The other men in the building were also National Guard servicemen.

Late in the evening, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, arrived at the house in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka. According to information from "Ukrainska Pravda", the crowd blocked the exit from the building's territory and trashed a National Guard bus. Shots can be heard in the published videos.

According to Budanov, 14 people were held in the building.

When asked whether the people were held legally, Budanov replied: "The investigation will clarify that."
