Russian veterans of the war with Ukraine, who returned from the front, have already killed and injured over 1000 people
Over almost four years of war with Ukraine, Russian combatants who have returned from the front have killed and injured more than 1000 people. This refers to servicemen who returned to civilian life on leave, after injury, contract termination, or discharge from service. The Russian publication "Verstka", with the participation of the German "Die Welt", hasthoroughly studiedhundreds of court decisions.

It turned out that at least 551 people died at the hands of those who returned from the front — 274 of them were killed, 163 died after receiving severe bodily injuries, and the rest died in road accidents and other crimes.
More than half of the deaths are attributed to ex-convicts. Of the 281 previously convicted servicemen who, after returning from the front, again killed or caused harm leading to death, at least 142 had served time in penal colonies for similar crimes.

Another 465 people were seriously injured at the hands of returning combatants. More than half of them — 252 people — were victims of former prisoners.
Most cases involve domestic conflicts, half of which involve alcohol and drugs. Most often, the victims are relatives and acquaintances of the servicemen.
Of more than 700 published court decisions analyzed by "Verstka", in less than 10% of cases judges did not take into account the defendants' participation in combat operations as a mitigating circumstance. In 90% of cases, it was taken into account.
