The match on December 9 between Kazakhstan's "Kairat" and Greece's "Olympiacos", which ended with a score of 0:1, took place at the formally lowest officially recorded temperature in the entire history of the Champions League. The temperature outside at the start of the game was -21 °C.

The situation was mitigated by the fact that the "Astana Arena" stadium, where the match was held, has a retractable roof, thanks to which the footballers played in more comfortable conditions.
It is interesting that in Almaty, where "Kairat" usually plays its matches, it was +2°C that day, but the meeting was still moved to the much colder capital of Kazakhstan.
Previously, the "coldest" match was considered to be one in Moscow in 2007, when local CSKA played against London's "Arsenal" at -14 °C.
