At an American auction at the end of March, an unusual lot was sold for a very high price — a bottle of rare 1945 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wine. Its price reached an incredible 812,500 dollars. The sale took place during the annual La Paulée auction, organized by the renowned company Acker in New York, reports The Washington Post.

This sale broke the previous record for the price of a bottle of wine, which was set in 2018 and amounted to 558,000 dollars. Thus, the new price increased by almost half, making this bottle the most expensive ever sold at auction.
Representatives of the auction house noted that this transaction confirms the status of the 1945 wine as one of the most desired in collecting history. The company's management also emphasized that the event itself became an important occasion for the world of elite wine, bringing together the best producers and collectors.
It is known that this wine was found in the private collection of one of the famous French winemakers — Robert Drouhin, who for many years managed a renowned wine house in Burgundy. Who exactly bought this bottle is not reported.
The special value of this wine is connected to its unique history. In 1945, the vineyards had not yet been replanted, and this was the last harvest from very old vines. After this, the vineyard was renewed. Additionally, the wine belongs to a very rare category because it comes from vineyards that were not adapted to phylloxera — a dangerous insect that destroyed a large part of Europe's vineyards in the past.
The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti winery is known for producing a very limited number of bottles annually — only a few thousand, and only a small portion of them belong to this legendary 1945 vintage.
Experts consider this wine to be extremely complex and rich in taste, with a unique depth, which makes it one of the most valuable in the world.
