The Ukrainian side believes that such actions pose a serious threat to global security. It is particularly emphasized that the practice of nuclear strikes violates the fundamental principles of international agreements on nuclear non-proliferation. According to these rules, countries possessing nuclear weapons should not transfer control over them to other states, and those that do not have them should not accept them.
It is also stated that such actions effectively turn Belarus into a springboard for Russia's nuclear presence near NATO borders and create a dangerous precedent for other countries.
"The militarization of Belarus not only undermines confidence in international law but also definitively transforms Minsk into an accomplice to Russian nuclear blackmail," emphasizes Ukraine's MFA.
The statement emphasizes that the international community must respond firmly to the situation. Among the possible measures mentioned are increased sanctions against Russia and Belarus, increased support for Ukraine, and the strengthening of the presence of allied countries on NATO's eastern borders.
