European Central Bank Head Christine Lagarde Announced Early Resignation
70-year-old Lagarde has headed the ECB since November 2019.

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde announced that she will leave her post on February 7, 2027 — approximately nine months before the end of her eight-year term. The ECB officially announced this today, writes Bild.
70-year-old Lagarde has headed the regulator since November 2019. During her tenure, the bank faced the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and a sharp rise in inflation, in response to which it repeatedly raised interest rates.
The reasons for Lagarde's early resignation have not yet been disclosed. Earlier, media reported on the possible transition of the former head of the International Monetary Fund to the World Economic Forum.
Among the contenders for her position are former head of the Dutch Central Bank Klaas Knot and Spanish economist Pablo Hernández de Cos. The final decision on the appointment of the new ECB president must be made by the leaders of the eurozone states.
