During the tire change season, scammers become active, offering motorists new or used tires from well-known brands from abroad at attractive prices. As a result, buyers often end up without money and without the promised goods, warns the Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.

Particular caution should be exercised when purchasing through TikTok, Instagram, and messengers. Scammers create attractive pages, post stolen photos of expensive tires on them, and offer them significantly cheaper than in regular stores. Usually, this involves supposedly exclusive sets of used tires from Europe in excellent condition or new tires from manufacturers without a retail markup.
If a buyer expresses interest in the offer, sellers transfer the conversation to Viber or Telegram, and then demand full or partial advance payment. To transfer money, they send bank card top-up details via the ERIP system. After receiving the money, scammers block the buyer, and the ad and the page itself disappear.
Key signs of fraud include the absence of an official store website, refusal to ship goods with payment upon receipt, demanding advance payment to a card, and disabled or hidden comments on the page.
When purchasing through private messages on social networks, the consumer effectively risks their own money, as in the event of fraud, the possibilities to protect their rights are significantly more limited.
