Today, November 1, the second round of presidential elections took place in Bulgaria. Acting President Iliana Iotova and former Prime Minister Andrei Gyurov met in it.
According to the state news agency BTA, exit polls predict a victory for the Iotova and Kiril Valchev ticket, with a result of approximately 51-52%.
Exit polls give Gyurov, paired with vice-presidential candidate Georgi Kandev, 43-44%.
61-year-old Iliana Iotova is supported by the ruling party "Progressive Bulgaria" and BSP. She advocates for negotiations with Russia and against military aid to Ukraine. Iotova is considered a successor to the political course of President Rumen Radev.
Gyurov is supported by pro-Western parties. He is an opponent of the Kremlin. During a brief period when he was interim prime minister, he signed a security cooperation agreement with Ukraine.
The campaign was intensified by drone attacks on merchant ships off the Bulgarian coast in October. During a TV debate, Gyurov accused Iotova of not naming Russia as the direct culprit.
