According to preliminary estimates, the collision speed was 160-200 km/h.

The Renfe AVE train crashed into an Iryo train, which was stopped before the entrance to Urda station in the Spanish province of Toledo.
According to preliminary estimates, the collision speed was 160-200 km/h. This was reported by the Independent Administrative Body for Technical Investigation of Railway, Maritime and Aviation Accidents and Incidents (AITAT).
«The collision occurred at a speed estimated to be between 160 and 200 km/h, although the exact speed will only be known after data from the onboard recorder is obtained,» the statement said.
According to the investigation, the first car of the rear-moving train collided with the last car of the stopped train, after which both overturned. The remaining Renfe cars derailed, one of them was pierced by a rail fragment deformed by the collision. Only the first two cars of the Iryo train remained on the tracks.
The Iryo train had 147 passengers and five crew members, while the Renfe train had 379 passengers and seven crew members.
By Friday morning, the death toll reached 69 people. A three-day mourning period has been declared in Spain.
