Russia's National Team Returns to International Ice Hockey Competitions
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has obliged the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to admit Russian national teams to international competitions. This was reported by Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev, according to sports.ru.

«The Court of Arbitration for Sport has obliged the International Ice Hockey Federation to admit Russian national teams to international competitions. CAS annulled all five resolutions of the IIHF Council and ordered the admission of Russian teams to IIHF competitions to which these resolutions applied.
Consequently, CAS recognized the demands of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation on key points as justified and overturned the IIHF decisions that prevented Russian teams from participating in international competitions.
According to the court's decision, the International Ice Hockey Federation is obliged to ensure the participation of Russian teams in the relevant IIHF tournaments in the 2026/27 season. The CAS decision puts an end to this matter, as it is final and not subject to appeal.
The next competition — the World Junior Championship — will take place in Canada, in the cities of Edmonton and Red Deer, and next May, the 'senior' World Championship will be held in Germany.
Following the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian ice hockey have been under an international ban. National teams were suspended from World Championships and Olympic Games. This summer, Belarusian youth and women's ice hockey were reinstated to international competitions, but the junior and national teams remained under sanctions at that time.
