Lithuanian Defense Minister: Putin Needs a New Victory, and He's Looking at the Baltic States and Poland

As Russia is unable to win the war against Ukraine, the Kremlin is looking for an alternative victory option and is now considering the Baltic region and Poland as the most likely next target.

According to the Lithuanian Defense Minister, the war in Ukraine is not developing as Russia planned. Russians cannot win, and explosions are already occurring on Russian territory itself, with a fuel shortage. Russian society, he emphasized, is already questioning the Kremlin's regime, asking why this is happening and where the promised victory is, writes "Ukrainska Pravda".

"The Kremlin, Putin, needs a new escalation, some new victory, and in this case, the closest target is the Baltic region and Poland," he said.

His statement came after Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, in an interview with BNS agency, confirmed reports that appeared in foreign media several weeks ago. According to them, Russia planned provocations in Poland or the Baltic states to test NATO's unity.

According to the president, such an assessment is based on intelligence data and concerns possible Russian attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, which could be carried out both using conventional military means and through so-called hybrid methods.
