The Popuri Publishing House has republished Eliza Orzeszkowa's classic novel "Upon the Niemen," translated by former Minister of Culture Anatol Butsevich, writes bellit.info.

The work raises themes of moral responsibility and the human ability to live in harmony with nature and one's conscience, loyalty to one's native land and ancestral home, love, and generational problems.
"Young noblewoman Justyna lives on her uncle's estate, wealthy landowner Karczyński. However, wealth and hothouse conditions do not bring her joy. After an unhappy love affair, the girl seeks solace in the beauty of the local nature, wandering for hours along the banks of the Niemen and the surrounding fields. During one such walk, she meets the poor nobleman Jan Bohatyrowicz, whom her relatives contemptuously consider a peasant. The young man introduces Justyna to his family and the history of the Bohatyrowicz lineage, opening a new chapter in the young lady's life," the annotation states.
At the end of the book, translator's comments and notes are included.
The new edition of Eliza Orzeszkowa's "Upon the Niemen" can be purchased at the "Paragraph 45" bookstore, "Academic Book," and also ordered through marketplaces, for example, via Oz.by.
