In 1991—1995 Dziady was a public holiday and a day off.

Radunitsa is a spring day of remembrance of ancestors, while Dziady is an autumn one. Previously, Dziady was widely celebrated in the center and west of the country. It is still observed now.
Classical works by Adam Mickiewicz and Yanka Kupala are dedicated to this tradition.
People bring candles to graves and tidy them up before winter.
Since the late 1980s, the celebration of Dziady has been combined with days of remembrance for the victims of Soviet executions in Kurapaty and other places of mass destruction of the population. However, since 2021, due to political repressions, no actions (events) are held in Belarus.
