«There is a very pessimistic scenario. Everyone will give up on Belarus, and for a not very long, but tragic time, Belarus will truly become part of the 'Russian world,'» says the ex-banker and ex-presidential candidate.

Politician and former political prisoner Viktar Babaryka took part in the Pradmova literary festival in Prague on October 31. At the festival, Sabina Brylo's book «The Case of Viktar Babaryka» was presented. During the presentation, Babaryka answered Belsat's question about the political future of Belarus.
Viktar Babaryka stated that even in 2020 there was no «malicious motivation: allegedly, it's time to overthrow someone.» According to him, the motivation «was different,» at least among his acquaintances.
«It stemmed from the realization that we are already independent enough, we have gained so much strength that we can try to take responsibility for the fate of the country, for the fate of our children. This was not a war against, this was a move towards something new, towards a different scenario. Yes, many people are now waiting for that very window of opportunity, through which we will start punishing someone. But I disagree,» the politician said.
Overall, Babaryka believes, during the lifetime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, «it is very unlikely that an opportunity for a revolutionary movement will emerge in Belarus.»
«There is a very pessimistic scenario. Everyone will give up on Belarus, and for a not very long, but tragic time, Belarus will truly become part of the 'Russian world'. This will be the scenario where Ukraine is betrayed, which is what we are seeing now. And Russia will celebrate its victory. But in history, such victories have never been long-term,» the politician noted.
As for a more optimistic scenario, according to Babaryka, it will also not be revolutionary, but evolutionary. According to him, the role of the state and large corporations for an individual is decreasing, and accordingly, the value of power for a specific citizen is also decreasing. Therefore, the politician believes, it is necessary to create «not so much a system of struggle for power, but a system of assistance to people, compensation for the harm that power inflicts on a person.»
«I do not believe in revolutionary changes in Belarus of the same intensity as in 2020. I did not believe in a harsher scenario even in 2020. And I still do not believe that in the future there will be an even harsher scenario than it was in 2020,» said Babaryka.
According to him, «perhaps it's naivety, but it's certainly not foolishness.»
