Belarusian Ambassador Appears in Slovakia for the First Time in 6 Years
Ihar Fisenka, the Belarusian Ambassador to Slovakia, presented his credentials to the President of that country, Peter Pellegrini, on October 21. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

Belarus had not had an ambassador in Slovakia since 2020. Aliaksandr Lukashenka appointed Ihar Fisenka to this position on March 3, 2026 — five years after the resignation of the previous ambassador, Ihar Lyashchenia, who in 2020 supported the demand for new free elections in Belarus.
In autumn 2023, Belarus even closed its embassy in Slovakia. Plans to resume its activities became known in November 2025. It was expected that the mission would be operational by September 1, 2026. Ihar Fisenka had already been living in Bratislava since spring.
Fisenka graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and has worked at the Belarusian Foreign Ministry since 1994. He worked at the Belarusian embassy in Belgium, was a permanent representative to the European Union and NATO, and later headed diplomatic missions in Egypt, Oman, Sudan, and Algeria. From 2019, he was Belarus's Ambassador to France, simultaneously representing the country in Monaco and Portugal, as well as at UNESCO in Paris. In 2021, he remained only in the latter position.
Until autumn 2023, Slovakia consistently criticized the Belarusian authorities and joined all European sanctions, but the situation changed after the 2023 parliamentary elections, which were won by Robert Fico's party.
In May 2025, Slovakia appointed Jozef Migaš as its ambassador to Belarus, who held this position before 2020 and is known for his friendliness towards Lukashenka's regime. In September of the same year, he presented his credentials to Aliaksandr Lukashenka. Currently, Slovakia and Hungary are the only European Union countries that have full-fledged ambassadors in Belarus.
